For the ultimate surfer or birdwatchers vacation, the tiny beachfront community of Pavones along Costa Rica's southern Pacific Coast is the perfect destination for those who want to catch some of the best long waves in the world. Waves here hit their peak during Costa Rica's rainy season (April to October) and with an excellent left point where waves hold their shape, the swells here are ideal for the serious surfer. Some say it's the longest left in the world, some surfers disagree, however, it is Costa Rica surfing at it's best. |

Tree House In Costa RicaCanopy living in Costa Rica is a new lifestyle created by Architect / Painter, Michael H. Cranford. Our tree house concept started with a sketch on a bar napkin 3 years ago in Panama with Rebecca Amelia. 1500 design hours later, 643 erasers, 112 pencils, a few beers, and a bunch of imported architectural paper -Our tree house is expected to be completed by Dec 2009, and is already rented for part of 2010. Living high up in the canopy encourages you to renew your relationship with nature, and connect yourself to our life giving Guanacaste tree. Nature is a great teacher, and living high in the canopy will give you the opportunity to re look at how we live with and impact our planet. Contact Tree House In Costa Rica 508-714-0622

Hotels, Lodges And Accommodations In Pavones |
At The end of the road in Pavones are several nature and eco-lodges offering excellent birding. Tiskita Lodge has a few kilometers of private nature trails and is an excellent choice if you are a birder. Back to surfing… The south swells coming in to Pavones turn into perfect lefts that get hollow allowing surfers on a good day to ride the waves for over 3 minutes at a time! The wave rides are so long that you literally have to get out of the water and walk back to the line up. I knew one surfer who hired a taxi all day to shuffle him back and forth.
A quaint mile long beach, Pavones lies around 15 km south of Playa Zancudo and has some of the best surf on the Pacific Coast of North & South America. Around 400 km south of the capital city San Jose, the best way to get to Pavones is via Golfito, from where you can catch a cab to here. A much quicker way to get here is to fly into Coto 47 from San Jose and then just take a taxi to Pavones. Water Taxi from the Osa is also an option.
One thing that you need to be aware of when visiting this beach is that there is little to do other than surf and bird watch, as the coast is rather rocky. Ideal for sun bathing or a nice long stroll, there is not much to see and do out, expect enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. North of Pavones though, there are some really beautiful remote beaches and reefs, which are perfect to spend a day away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. South ofr Pavones you will find the Buruca Indian Reservation, where you can ask your hotel to arrange a tour to meet the indigenous culture. While hanging out in the local beachfront cantina is the best way to keep abreast of what's going on in town. Accommodations at Pavones are basic at best and or if you prefer you can stay at the exclusive Tiskita Jungle Lodge, a private biological reserve nearby, or Casa Siempre Domingo. |
