Now THIS is a remote outpost in Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula. Make sure you have reservations BEFORE you start to Carate and are well prepared with ice & food. There are NO stores, other than a small “pulperia” at the very end of the road, which has a minimal stock of provisions (and no ice or food other than very basic snacks). There are no restaurants open to the public but there are a few lodges, which, with prior notice might serve you. Carate is the southern entrance to Corcovado National Park. The La Leona Ranger Station is about a 50 minute walk down the beach from where the road ends. This is truly an adventure and without a doubt, getting away from it all! If you want to experience endless wildlife, soothing ocean waves, and endless, deserted beaches- this is where you want to be. This is the best place to rent if you plan a trip into Sirena Biological Station or Corcovado for the day.
